Pope Francis has issued a heartfelt appeal for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the unconditional release of all hostages, as the humanitarian crisis in the region continues to escalate. Speaking from the Vatican, the pontiff urged all parties involved to choose peace over violence and to prioritize the protection of innocent civilians.

“I renew my call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza,” Pope Francis said during his weekly Angelus prayer at St. Peter’s Square. “Enough with the bloodshed, enough with the suffering. Let the hostages be freed, and let humanitarian aid reach those in desperate need.”

The Pope’s message comes amid continued fighting between Israeli forces and Hamas militants, which has left thousands dead and many more displaced. Civilians, including children, have been particularly affected by the conflict, with widespread damage to homes, hospitals, and infrastructure.

Francis emphasized the moral responsibility of global leaders to intervene and support efforts toward peace. “Let us not look away from the suffering of others. The international community must act with urgency, not only with words but with concrete steps toward a just and lasting resolution,” he added.

The Vatican has consistently advocated for dialogue and peaceful resolution in conflicts across the Middle East. Pope Francis has also spoken out on multiple occasions in defense of both Israeli and Palestinian civilians, calling for respect for human dignity on all sides.

His latest call adds to the growing chorus of international voices demanding a de-escalation in Gaza, as humanitarian organizations warn of a looming catastrophe if the violence continues unchecked.
