China Urges US to End Trade War, But Also Ready to Respond
China has called on the United States to bring an end to the ongoing trade war between the two economic superpowers, emphasizing the need for cooperation over confrontation. However, Beijing also made it clear that it is fully prepared to defend its interests should tensions continue to escalate.
In a recent statement, Chinese officials urged Washington to roll back tariffs and engage in constructive dialogue to ease economic frictions that have strained global markets for years. “The trade war benefits no one,” a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce said. “We hope the US will work with us to create a stable, win-win environment for both countries and the world.”
Despite these appeals for reconciliation, China remains firm in its stance that it will not hesitate to respond if further trade restrictions are imposed. This dual approach reflects Beijing’s broader strategy: pursuing peace and cooperation, while maintaining the readiness to act decisively when necessary.
The trade war, which began in 2018, has seen both countries impose hundreds of billions of dollars in tariffs on each other’s goods, disrupting supply chains and creating uncertainty in the global economy. Although some progress has been made through partial agreements, tensions have persisted, particularly over issues like technology transfers, intellectual property, and market access.
Analysts say China’s latest message signals a desire to de-escalate without appearing weak. “China is sending a clear message that it prefers dialogue but won’t back down if provoked,” said a trade expert based in Beijing.
As both nations prepare for a potential new round of trade talks, the world is watching closely to see whether diplomacy will prevail—or whether another chapter in the trade war is about to unfold.
